About Us
The Park Theatre Civic Center, nestled in downtown North Vernon, Indiana, is a historic venue committed to fostering the arts and serving as a cultural hub for the community. Our mission is to provide a diverse array of entertainment options, including current film screenings, live theater productions, and musical performances, all within a welcoming and affordable setting. We take pride in collaborating with local talent, such as the Jennings County Players, and hosting regional musicians, thereby enriching the cultural fabric of our area.
Our History
Established on October 4, 1916, as the Jennings Theatre, our venue was originally operated by the North Vernon Amusement Company. In 1938, it was renamed the Park Theatre under new management. The theater thrived as a centerpiece of local entertainment until its closure in March 1962. Recognizing its historical significance, a group of dedicated volunteers formed Park Theatre Civic Inc. in 1997, purchasing the building for $35,000 with the vision of restoring it to its former glory. After years of meticulous renovation, the Park Theatre Civic Center reopened in 2003, once again becoming a vibrant venue for movies, community theater, and regional musical acts. Our ongoing commitment is to preserve this historic landmark while continually adapting to serve the evolving cultural needs of North Vernon and the surrounding communities.
